Five years after Lazzaro, Domiziano Maselli returns on Torto Editions with Garden of Kira, a work of matching density and even more abrasive rawness. This record represents the culmination of an aesthetic that is only deceptively more restrained. It draws from the collaborative friction with Genoese double bassist and producer Tommaso Rolando—an expressive sphere where free improvisation and rigorous acoustic inquiry were paramount, as seen in Enjoy Country Music.

Here, however, Maselli pivots. He strips back the expansive environments of his previous output, bringing the sonic image into a sharp, unforgiving focus. Light and contour now carve out the spurious, granular consistency of raw metal. The record’s depth is further honed by the contributions of Willow Pond and Emilio Pozzolini, alongside a definitive “spatial” intervention by

Ben Frost, the renowned Australian producer and Reykjavík mainstay.

In Garden of Kira, Maselli solidifies a sonic research that dwells within the physical properties of matter to mirror the territories of the spirit. It is a poetics in constant evolution, one that grinds down long-distance experiences and allows them to sediment within the strenuous artifice of studio craftsmanship.
